Welcome to our journey through time as we explore the stunning restoration of an 1889 farmhouse. Nestled between Titcomb and Fair Street, this historic property has evolved from a sprawling horse farm into a beautifully renovated family home, blending historic charm with modern comforts.
From Horse Farm to Historic Homestead
Originally, the 1889 farmhouse stood as the centerpiece of an extensive horse farm, occupying the entire tract from Titcomb over to Fair Street. Over the decades, the land was subdivided into smaller plots, and new houses began to emerge in the 1960s. Despite these changes, the farmhouse remained a testament to the area’s rich agricultural heritage.
A Legacy Preserved: Family Ownership Until 2015
Purchased in the 1940s, the farmhouse stayed within the family for generations, preserving its original character and significance. In 2015, we acquired this treasured home with a vision to restore and honor its historic essence while updating it for contemporary living.
Comprehensive Restoration: Maintaining the Farmhouse Feel
Our restoration project was meticulous, ensuring that the historic farmhouse retained its authentic charm. The original structure lacked studs, presenting a unique challenge. Through careful engineering, we successfully insulated the home and upgraded essential systems, including plumbing, wiring, and HVAC, without compromising its historic integrity.
Preserving Original Features: Windows, Woodwork, and More
One of the standout features of the restored farmhouse is the preservation of its original wavy glass windows. These unique panes add a distinctive character that is rare in modern homes. Additionally, the longleaf pine curly wood was expertly stripped and varnished, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era.
Creative Reuse of Original Materials
In our commitment to sustainability and preservation, we repurposed the original beadboard into elegant wainscoting on the side porch and utility room. The kitchen ceiling was meticulously reproduced to mirror the original beadboard and painted a serene blue, creating a perfect blend of old and new.
Authentic Front Doors: A Gateway to the Past
The original front doors of the farmhouse are a highlight of the restoration. Featuring frosted and etched glass, these doors not only enhance the home’s aesthetic appeal but also serve as a direct link to its storied past.
A Home Worth Touring
Our dedication to preserving the farmhouse’s heritage has not gone unnoticed. The beautifully restored home has been featured on tours twice, allowing visitors to experience firsthand the seamless integration of historic elements with modern amenities.
