Completed in 1907 for physician Dr. C. B. Patton (born January 27, 1844, Troup County, Georgia), this residence captures an established medical career and a forward-looking household that adopted central heating rather than fireplaces. Patton came to Texas as a child, earned his medical degree at Tulane University of Medicine, and practiced for roughly fifty years. He served with the 21st Texas Cavalry during the Civil War under Col. George W. Carter, then resumed practice and fraternal service after the war. He married Kate Jenkins Dibrell of Galveston on October 20, 1873; their son, S. C. Patton, also became a physician. Patton sold the property in 1923, moved in 1926 to live near family, and died May 16, 1934. He is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas.
House history. A 1976 field photograph and inventory entry place the property on Block 3, Lot 6, identifying it explicitly as the “Dr. C. B. Patton House.” This dwelling had no fireplaces and a coal-burning furnace in the basement heated the structure, a local rarity in 1907. The parcel is a 2.5-acre estate in mid-20th-century survey materials.
