James G. Patek, born on November 4, 1870, in Czechoslovakia, immigrated to Texas with his family and became an enduring part of the Gonzales community. The son of Jakub Patek and Marie Vackar, he married Barbara Vackar on September 22, 1892, in Lavaca, Texas. Together, they raised a large family with three sons and seven daughters.

A dedicated farmer, James lived and worked in Gonzales County’s Justice Precinct 1 for around 40 years. He passed away on April 20, 1944, at the age of 73 and is buried in Gonzales. His legacy remains tied to the agricultural roots and history of the area.
